Biodiversity surveys:

With Mango Bay’s financial support, WAR has been conducting numerous biodiversity surveys on butterfly, fish, bat, reptile and amphibian, orchid, and plant on Phu Quoc Island and has revealed many new species for Vietnam.

Butterfly, Orchid, Rare plants and Medicinal plants gardens:

Set up within the Mango Bay, these gardens contribute to conservation of endanger species on Phu Quoc Island.

Tourists and students can observe and learn about life cycle of butterflies, native orchids or an indigenous plant and medicinal herbs.

Those gardens are closely monitored by WAR experts, in order to understand more about growth of those species.

Repopulating native plant species:

Mango Bay supports WAR and Phu Quoc National Park to collect and replant the Dipterocarpus, an indigenous plant that is becoming rare on Phu Quoc Island due to illegal logging.

Educating young generations and calling local people to participate in nature conservation:

Mango Bay’s financial supports were used effectively in setting up Green Clubs for the secondary school students of Phu Quoc Islands.

Beside regular meetings, members of those Green clubs take field trips to discover the nature of Phu Quoc National Park and take part in painting contest on natural resources protection.

Communications event were also conducted for local people and the students and to draw attention of local leaders.

Energy conservation

• Use of polystyrene boxes for refrigeration purposes in our bars, kitchen and eco-friendly minibar in bungalows

Water conservation

• Pump and treat fresh water from shallow wells
• Low water use toilets
• Use table mats that can be wiped and not laundered

Recycling and waste

• Buy fresh and local daily to reduce packaging and emissions from transportation
• Purchase in bulk to reduce packaging
• Recycle paper and glass
• Compost organic matter and use for animals
• Limit paper based marketing and other administration to a minimum
• Septic tanks for waste

Land and nature conservation

• Thousands of trees planted under supervision over the past few years
• Locally sourced building materials
• Rammed earth Bungalow: Natural building method and pioneers in Vietnam using this method
• Minimise tree removal when building bungalows
• Minimise fishing boats on our shores to rehabilitate our reef
• Every month all staff help on a Cleaning day for the whole property

Community

• Over 50% of Mango Bay staff are from the local commune
• Use of Local suppliers
• Re-invest resort income locally
• Pay above local prevailing wage
• Pay into local social security
• 4 months of free English lessons to all staff members during low season
• Free accommodation provided for staff and a crèche provided for their children

BY AIR:

Mango Bay is located on Ong Lang Beach, 7 km North of Duong Dong and the airport.

You can access Phu Quoc by air from Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi or Can Tho or by boat fromthe mainland. Our guest relation staff will meet our guests at the airport and we are more thanhappy to arrange transportation from the harbours.

Vietnam Airlines flies from Ho Chi Minh in 50 minutes and offers from five to nine dailyflights.

The airfare is approximately US$100 Return ( Sept 2011). For those traveling through the Mekong Delta, a good option is to fly to Phu Quoc from Rach Gia or CanTho.

Flights are available daily at a cost of approximately 40 Usd One way from Can Tho and 35 Usd from Rach Gia ( Sept 2011).

Air Mekong is another alternative. Flights from Ho Chi Minh are approximately 40 minutes and the airfare is approximately 70 Usd ( Sept 2011) –They have several flights a day. They also offer a 2 hour direct flights from Hanoi which costs around 100 Usd
One way.

BY BOAT:

Alternatively, there are now frequent boat services (2 hour trip) from Rach Gia, to Vong Beach and from Ha Tien and Rach Gia to Ham Ninh. Fares are $13 one way.

We will be happy to arrange your transfer from the Airport or from the port to Mango Bay. Please provide us with your time of arrival. As most of our arrivals come by air, we have most of the time our Mango Bay Airport Representative to assist you.
