How to Get to Phu Quoc

Phu Quoc has long been a destination for those seeking a slower rhythm, where the sea, forest, and soft evening light come together in quiet harmony. The journey to the island is not just about getting there, but about stepping away from the familiar pace of everyday life.

If you are planning how to travel to Phu Quoc, there are two main options: by air or by sea. Each offers its own advantages, depending on your time, budget, and the kind of experience you are looking for.

At Mango Bay Resort Phu Quoc, many guests feel that their holiday begins the moment they start their journey to the island.

Getting to Phu Quoc by Air

Flying is the fastest and most convenient way to reach Phu Quoc, especially if you are traveling with family or have a shorter itinerary.

Phu Quoc International Airport receives direct flights from major cities across Vietnam, offering flexible options throughout the day. From Ho Chi Minh City, the flight takes around one hour, with a wide range of departure times operated by Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines, and Sun Phu Quoc Airways, making it easy to plan your schedule.

In addition, Phu Quoc is increasingly connected to international destinations, particularly from South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and several cities in China. This makes the island more accessible for international travelers or those combining multiple destinations within the region.

If you are departing from Hanoi, the flight takes approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes. As this is a longer route, fares can be higher, especially during peak season, so booking one to two months in advance is recommended.

From Da Nang, direct flights take around 1 hour and 45 minutes. As there are fewer flights compared to larger cities, it is advisable to check schedules in advance to ensure a smooth journey.

Upon arrival at Phu Quoc Airport, it takes about 25 to 30 minutes to reach the Ong Lang area. You can choose between taxis, ride-hailing services, or private transfers, with typical fares ranging from 250,000 to 350,000 VND depending on the time.

For a more seamless arrival, Mango Bay offers two-way airport transfer services for in-house guests. Your transfer can be arranged in advance according to your flight time, allowing you to step off the plane and continue your journey without the need to search for transportation. It is a simple way to begin your stay in a more relaxed and effortless rhythm.

Getting to Phu Quoc by Ferry or Speedboat

If you prefer a more immersive journey, traveling by sea offers a different kind of experience. Slower and more open, it allows you to take in the changing horizon as you approach the island.

Ferries and speedboats mainly depart from Rach Gia and Ha Tien, arriving at Bai Vong Port on the eastern side of Phu Quoc.

From Rach Gia, the journey takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. There are usually several departures each day, starting from early morning to early afternoon. Operators such as Superdong and Phu Quoc Express provide comfortable seating and are suitable for families.

From Ha Tien, the journey is shorter, taking around 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes by speedboat. Alternatively, ferries are available if you plan to bring a motorbike or car. These take longer, from around 1.5 to nearly 3 hours, but offer more flexibility for personal transport.

After arriving at Bai Vong Port, it takes another 30 to 40 minutes to reach Ong Lang. Taxis are the most convenient option, with fares typically ranging from 300,000 to 400,000 VND.

If you are traveling with children or are prone to seasickness, choosing a larger, more stable vessel and selecting seats near the center can help make the journey more comfortable. Booking tickets in advance is also recommended during peak travel periods.

Which Option Should You Choose

If you value speed and convenience, flying is the most suitable choice. If you have more time and would like the journey itself to be part of the experience, traveling by sea offers a slower and more connected way to arrive.

There is no right or wrong choice, only the way you prefer to begin your time on the island.

When the Journey Becomes Part of the Stay

No matter how you choose to travel to Phu Quoc, one thing becomes clear early on: the pace begins to slow down. From the very first steps of your journey, the noise of everyday life starts to fade.

And when you arrive at Mango Bay, that feeling becomes even more present. Tree-lined paths, the distant sound of waves, and the fresh sea air create a space where everything feels lighter, as if there is nothing you need to do, except to be there and take it all in.
